What can I put in my recycling bin?

You can recycle more than you think

It’s important that we all recycle correctly, by putting the right things in the right bin. This means that the recycled materials we sell on behalf of your councils is of the best quality and fetches the highest price, as it isn’t contaminated by other stuff people have accidentally put in the wrong bin.

Most people get this right most of the time but sometimes the wrong items end up in the wrong recycling bin. This often happens if you’ve moved and are unfamiliar with how the bins work in a new borough.

If you’re not sure what goes in the recycling bins where you live then find out here, by clicking your borough. You can find out what borough you live in by looking on your council tax bill.

And no matter what borough you live in you can put the following items in your recycling bin:

  • plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays

  • clean foil and foil trays

  • empty aerosols

  • glass bottles and jars

  • food tins and drinks cans

  • cardboard and paper
