Park View Road Reuse and Recycling Centre Closure - FAQs

What is happening to Park View Road?
On 23 October 2017 the Park View Road Reuse and Recycling Centre closed permanently. For many years Park View Road was the only recycling centre in Haringey. There is now a larger and more modern site on Western Road in Wood Green.

Where else can I go to take my waste/recycling?
You can visit a number of Reuse and Recycling Centres in North London. The council also collects a wide range of recyclable material from residents. For more information on bulky waste and refuse collections click here. For green waste you can also try home composting. Details are available here.

Why is the site closing?
Haringey Council has to save £20 million by 2018/2019 - on top of more than £100 million they have already saved. The potential closure of the Park View Road Reuse and Recycling Centre was put forward as one of the budget saving proposals in Haringey's Corporate Plan 2015-18.

What is going to happen to the Park View Road staff?
All staff affected by the closure have been given suitable alternative employment on other Reuse and Recycling Centre sites operated by LondonEnergy Ltd., (formerly LondonWaste Ltd) who operate six other Reuse and Recycling Centres in north London on behalf of the North London Waste Authority.

What is going to happen to all the equipment on the site?
NLWA and LondonEnergy Ltd, who operate the site, will have four days to clear the site of all wastes and possessions. The site will be handed back to Haringey Council on Friday 27 October.

Are residents still receiving a good level of service?
Residents have a number of alternatives available. Western Road in Wood Green is a larger and more modern site than Park View Road. Western Road Reuse and Recycling Centre accepts the same range of materials as Park View Road as well as hard plastics, which Park View Road does not. Residents can also visit a number of Reuse and Recycling Centres in North London.

The council also collects recyclable material from residents. For bulky and refuse collection click here. For green waste you can also try home composting. Details are available here

North London residents can visit the site that is nearest and most convenient to them, and not necessarily in their own borough.

Western Road Reuse and Recycling Centre accepts the same materials as Park View Road as well as hard plastics which Park View Road does not (those marked with an x are not accepted at the site, those with the word 'YES' are accepted at the site.)

What are you going to use the site for once the RRC has closed?
The site that the Recycling Centre and council depot forms part of the regeneration plans for Tottenham Hale. Part of the depot is shortly due to be redeveloped for use by the school on Ashley Road; the remainder is expected to be developed as housing.
